Basics on Govinda
A Sagittarian, Govinda was born on 21st December 1963 in Vihar, Thane, Mumbai. He was named Govind Arun Ahuja. His father was a Punjabi Arun Kumar Ahuja, who was an actor in the forties. His mother Nirmala came fromBanaras and was a classical singer and dancer. She was also an actress and was cast opposite his father in the movie Savera and they got married in 1941. His father’s attempt at producing a movie failed after which he faced some health issues and the family moved to Virar.
Several relatives are in the movie business like his sister Kaamini Khanna, his brother Kirti Kumar besides nephews and nieces.
Govinda was rumoured to be interested in his co-star Neelam but he married Sunita in 1987. She was his maternal uncle Anand Singh’s wife’s sister. They have two childrenNarmada and Yashvardhan.
Govinda studied Commerce at theAnnasaheb Vartak College . He developed a passion for dance after watching the movie Saturday Night Fever. He began circulating a tape and soon bagged a fertilizer ad followed by one for Allwyn.
He hosted the television show Jeeto Chappard Phaad ke on Sony Entertainment Television in 2001. He also has to his credit the 2007 Most Stylish Comeback Award at the MTV Lycra Style Awards. And took the tenth place in a survey conducted by BBC News Online to find the Top 10 Greatest Stars of Stage and Screen in the last 1000 years.

1986 to 1990 Govinda’s first movie was Ilzaam in 1986 with Neelam that became a big hit. Love 86 released later that year was also a success. He acted in movies like Khudgarz (1987), Hatya (1988), Do Qaidi (1989) and Izzatdaar (1990).
1991 to 1995 He worked with Amitabh Bacchan in Hum (1991). He paired up with director David Dhawan in Shola Aur Shabnam (1992) and played the role of Michael Corleone in Zulm Ki Hukumat (1992) that was inspired by The Godfather. In 1993, his movie David Dhawan’s comedy Aankhen with Govinda in a double role became one of the biggest hits of the year.
